Capital market meets Mittelstand
The Gulf One Buchanan Industrial Technologies Fund I LP has been jointly established with the Gulf One Investment Bank B.S.C. with the purpose of identifying and investing in small and medium-sized industrial technology companies located within Germany, Austria and Switzerland (the “DACH-region”). The Fund is mainly targeting investors from the Middle East region. MIT AG and the Fund focus on the same targets, means in many cases they will invest side by side. The MIT AG is a limited patner of the fund. The fund holds direct interest in the Royal Aero GmbH, ST Holding AG / NCTE GmbH and TB&C Outsert Center GmbH.
The Gulf One Munich Industrial Technologies LP has been jointly established with the Gulf One Investment Bank B.S.C. in 2010. MIT AG holds 15% of the fund which is invested in ST Holding AG/NCTE and Belte AG.
Belte AG specializes in the heat treatment of aluminum and is considered one of the most innovative companies in this area. Belte refines above all engine components (e.g. cylinder heads, crankcases) and structural components (e.g. frames). The goal to use this refinement is to manufacture assemblies of equal material quality but significantly lighter. Thus Belte benefits from the mega-trends "lightweight construction" and "reduction of energy balance." Furthermore, the company develops, among others, specialized components for the aerospace industry, the medical engineering industry as well as shipbuilding and transport technology. Belte AG employs 140 employees (as at August 2011) at two sites (Delbrück, Altheim). Its customers include all major automobile manufacturers in Germany.
The Royal Aero GmbH specialises in the selection, purchase, conditioning and sale of high-quality replacement parts for the aviation industry and particularly concentrates on turbines and replacement parts for turbines used in modern wide-bodied aircraft. Royal Aero supplies on the global market with focus on Europe and is delivering to ‘brand name’ customers such as Lufthansa, Delta, Delta, North American Airlines and All Nippon Airways with used, certified reconditioned original replacement parts. In addition, Royal Aero offers a complete service to manage engine assets for fleet operators with respect to maintenance schedules and timely replacement of LLPs to maximize air time and minimize maintenance costs. Since 2008, Royal Aero offers, together with LHI Leasing also leasing services. The service portfolio includes various types of turbines, from smaller ones to a Rolls-Royce Trent 500.
NCTE GmbH develops, manufactures and distributes non-contact sensing solutions for torque and absolute position measurement. The technology allows the production on an industrial scale, measures very accurately and can be used under adverse conditions (eg, oil, heat, cold). The products are used in a variety of industries (power plants, mechanical engineering, automotive, motor sports) as well as for consumer products, e.g. E-Bikes. The disruptive technology allows applications which have previously been impossible and is replacing existing applications using current technologies with a unique price and performance advantage. The company is successfully delivering top tier and blue chip customers.
TB&C Outsert Center GmbH is a spin-off company of the Philips group based in Herborn-Burg, Hesse, Germany. They produce high-precision components in all sorts of plastic-metal combinations. Two materials are combined with the help of a special technique: the innovative Outsert technology. TB&C develops and produces components for customers like Webasto, Wincor-Nixdorf International, Inteva Products (former ArvinMeritor), Roche Diagnostics and B. Braun Avitum. As part of a joint project with one of the largest manufacturers of roof systems, TB&C started production in Puebla, Mexico, at the end of 2010. It is planned to expand the production into the Asian market in 2013/2014.
In June 2011, MIT AG acquired a direct participation in Happy Plating GmbH. Happy Plating was founded in 2004 as a spin-out of an Austrian research center. In close cooperation with its customers Happy Plating develops product-oriented advanced process solutions for selectively functionalising technical surfaces. For example, Happy Plating produces belt deflectors for Mercedes with defined friction resistance and coats aluminium endoscopes for well-known manufacturers in the medical technology. With a lead of several years of development Happy Plating is a leader in the field of electrochemical surface technology. MIT expects to realize significant synergies between the Happy Plating, Belte and NCTE.
